Anything You need to know
Along the way
Trailrunning assumes self-sufficiency as much as possible during the trek. Only for the 27.5 km runners, there is one full supply point after about 18 km. Here you can take water, sports drink, cola, banana, granola bar, chocolate, wine gums, or dextrose, for example. Cups are provided, but you can of course bring your own.
For all distances there is a water post two kilometres before the finish, so make sure you bring enough water! A bottle or backpack with water is recommended.
The course is partly on public roads, where you do not have priority over regular traffic. At some traffic points there will be traffic wardens to guide the runners when crossing. You should ALWAYS follow the directions of the traffic guides.
The route will be marked by orange ribbons, signs with an orange ribbon attached, orange ribbons on the trees and white chalk sprayed on the ground.
Due to the high water levels of the Dinkel, we may have to adjust the route in a few places. If this is the case, you will be informed in detail on the morning of the trail and it will be clearly indicated on the trail where and what the changes are.
The age limit used is 18 years and over.
Dogs are not allowed on the trail. We go over a lot of farmland and private land and dogs are not appreciated. Not even on a leash.
Just before the border crossing, you will receive a small packet of butter and you will have to smuggle this packet 'illegally' past the commies across the border. After the finish, there is an extensive supply post and you will receive a delicious Twentse raisinbread with your smuggled butter.
At various locations along the route, the runners will be supported musically by various musicians.
The three fastest men and women on the 27 and 14.5 km smuggling trail will be honoured after the number three comes in. The winners will receive a handmade smuggling trophy as a souvenir and all podium finishers will receive a bottle of Twente smuggling oil.
